Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS)
This is a great question and it's important to focus on the first piece, there is no such thing as perfection no matter how much society pushes it. It's important to know that every parent, family, and child is different. With this in mind, we can understand how there is no one representation of the ideal parentI(s) or child(ren).
However, most can probably agree on a few expectations of what a parent ideally provides for their child(ren). Those may include:
This list doesn't mean you'll get each of these "perfect" every time, but that you try your best while remembering you're human. You may be feeling pressure to always get it right due to unrealistic expectations placed on you possibly from your parents, family, friends, and larger community.
Once someone becomes a parent there can be an unrealistic expectation that your entire life now revolves around this little person you are responsible for nurturing. It's possible you may be feeling guilty because you care so much about doing what's best for them. However, it's possible to find balance and extend grace to yourself realizing that giving of your time and energy to other things (whether necessary like work, or optional like your social life) doesn't mean you love your child any less or not providing what they need.
Also, learning to give time to other aspects of your life healthily models to your children how they can properly balance their needs as adults in the future. If you're needing support with where to start, complete the Intake Pre-screen to begin with one of our coaches today.
Coaching can help you be a better you, and that may help you improve some things that are important to you as a parent. As a parent it's important to remember that you are still an individual person first, before your role as a parent. In your role as a parent, you may have noticed a lot of changes that make you feel disconnected from yourself as an individual person.
If you're feeling stressed, stretched thin, overwhelmed, and disconnected from your social circle; learning how to reconnect with yourself, your interests and your friends (while realizing this doesn't make you a bad parent) can have a positive impact on all areas of your life.
