We are committed to providing short-term, low-cost, and even a limited amount of pro-bono Virtual Wellness Coaching and Virtual Wellness Groups for individuals with limited financial resources.
The Access Initiative (AI) is powered 100% by clinical social work and counseling graduate students supervised by licensed professionals.
We know one of the barriers that can be the deciding factor in getting care, or continuing to struggle on your own, is finances. Studies over recent years have shown a lack of insurance coverage, affordable sliding scale options, and high deductible plans in the U.S. can make therapy feel more like a privilege than the normalized basic care it should be. Our solution?
Welcome to The Access Initiative (AI)!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Every spring, summer, and fall semesters we are committing to providing short term, low-cost, and even a limited amount of pro-bono virtual services, to individuals in need powered 100% by clinical social work and counseling graduate student interns. Student interns are supervised by licensed professionals and adhere to weekly supervision meetings. They are knowledgeable and committed to quality service with fresh perspective and modern approaches.
Through AI, we are using technology to virtually meet you where you are, while providing high quality service in 2 ways:
Virtual Wellness Coaching Sessions
Goal oriented, mental health coaching sessions designed to equip you with education, tools, and guidance as you seek specific strategies to help you with identified needs. Open to individuals located anywhere in the U.S.

Pay what you can model
Virtual Wellness Groups:
Facilitated discussions on timely topics to help foster community building through shared experiences, interactive activities, and psycho-education. We host AI groups in partnership with community based organizations.

Is the Pre-screen always open?
The Pre-screen can be completed on a rolling basis year round. However, sessions are short term up to 12-weeks.
I’ve completed the Pre-screen, now what?
Following submission of the Pre-screen you will have the opportunity to request an appointment with one of our interns. They will follow up to share intake documents (Informed Consent, Notice of Privacy Practices, Emergency Contact & Release of Information & Credit Card Authorization forms).
Who qualifies for pro bono services and financial assistance?
Individuals who have low-income, are unemployed, are uninsured, or have experienced a significant life change will be prioritized for financial assistance.
How will I know if Virtual Wellness Coaching Sessions would be good for me or if I need therapy?
Great question! The Virtual Wellness Coaching Sessions are ideal for individuals who either have previously been in therapy and need a non-judgmental ear to help process through a specific concern (recent breakup, self-esteem, life transition, boundaries, etc); or to get back on track with self-care and coping strategies. These sessions might also be ideal for someone fairly new to exploring mental health support who may not be ready to commit to therapy.
These sessions include an introductory assessment, creation of a goal plan, solution focused strategies, and accountability. Individuals who are experiencing acute mental health concerns and symptoms that is impacting day to day functioning should seek therapy from a licensed provider.
*Note: If it is identified that a person utilizing Virtual Wellness Coaching Sessions would be more appropriately served through therapy services, the appropriate recommendation and referral will be made.
Are these services available no matter where I am located?
Virtual Wellness Coaching Sessions and Virtual Wellness Groups are open to anyone nationwide! One tip, make sure to pay attention to time zones (our default is CDT) to reduce confusion and so you don’t miss out!
